artist Don Christiansen.
Don Christiansen is an emerging artist from South Texas. Born in San Benito Texas in 1967 of Mexican/American decent. Christiansen has spent most of his life in South Texas and Northern Mexico. He has studied and worked in Dallas, San Antonio, Edinburg, and Brownsville Texas, where he graduated with a BFA from UT@ Brownsville. Christiansen's art is deeply inspired by his life experiences and has strong ties to the Mexican/American culture. His use of vibrant, contrasting colors have ties to his surroundings in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, where the artist now permanently resides. Artist Statement: My art is a direct reflection of my cultural background. Having traveled throughout Mexico, Peru, and Italy I have experienced many different styles of art and have translated many of these experiences into my artistic style. I can't say that I have a definite or fixed genre. Some have even described my art as quite bipolar. Whether it be my paintings, sculptures, or ceramic art, I find ties to the rich and colorful surroundings of the Mexican/American culture in all my art. Most of my recent art is inspired by my travels to El Cielo biosphere cloud forest near Gomez Farias, Tamaulipas Mexico, Meso-American art, border issues and other intellectual curiosities. On the issue of our government using our money to build a terrible wall between us and our neighbors in Mexico: There is no greater injustice than denying a neighbor in need, there is no greater crime than denying any animal it's right to life, and there is no greater atrocity than raping a landscape of it's beauty. REMEMBER: If we build a wall to keep the " good" people of Mexico out, only the "bad" will cross. |
